July 1, 2023 mile 1667 to mile 1680. 289 tree blowdowns.

Nice camp spot

I think we started at 6:00 am today. Everyone we talk to says the 5 miles of blowdowns in the middle of todays hike are brutal. They were correct. They sap your energy and slow you down as you climb over, under and around a seemingly endless array of blown down trees.

1st patch of snow. We just walked around or over these little baby patches.

I think this is Lily pad lake. Did not see any lily pads, but it was Purdy!

Action shot

Made it thru the blowdowns. Very difficult and draining. It often looked like a bomb went off.

Nice break spots.

Tired, but the views still beckon.

Nice

To get where we are going straight ahead, we do a huge semi circle around to the left.

Still nice.

Feet very sore at this point. Water is .25 down a trail behind us

Very calm

Ran into some friendly hikers near a water spot.

She was broke. I was tired. She got 20. I got water.

Lovely day

Getting a little dirty

Still feeling remarkably good! Sleeping great and no blisters or chafing!

“Mini Chimi” She was broke, I was tired. She got 20 bucks, I got 4 liters of water for dry camp that night. Win-win!

.

Made it to camp after 13 hard miles. Blowdowns successfully negotiated. Now tomorrow we deal with a pretty good elevation gain up to 7000 feet elevation, and get to deal with the huge snow drifts on the northern exposures, we have been hearing about
