Last nights camp spot when still alone. It does kinda look like a yard sale. Lol Nice early start at around 6:08 am. Sun peeking thru. Early 700 foot climb and a later 1200 foot climb. Not to bad. Nice trails for the most part. Generously called “seasonal stream”. Made it to Bucks Summit afterContinue reading “Friday July 22 Bear Creek (mile 1253) to Bucks summit and a hitch to Quincy at mile 1268, 15 miles.”

Thursday July 21, 2021 south fork spring mile 1233 to mile 1253 Bear Creek (20 miles)
Not sure how and why this says red. Lol. Now on the the old burn area. These burn areas are so sad. I was hiking in the heat of the day, and the fires eliminated all shade. Everything tastes like ash, and anything you put on the ground gets stained black. If I have toContinue reading “Thursday July 21, 2021 south fork spring mile 1233 to mile 1253 Bear Creek (20 miles)”
Wen July 20 mile 1216 to mile 1233 South Fork spring.
Got a fairly early start before 6:30 am. Nice clear hot day, and feeling pretty good. The mornings are incredible. Comfortable temps, no wind and great views. Grass lakes and others I can’t get to. More lakes. Sure look inviting. Views and more views. Lovely Great vistas .2 miles to water and my camp spotContinue reading “Wen July 20 mile 1216 to mile 1233 South Fork spring.”
Tuesday July 19, 1922 mile 1198.3 to “piped stream” at mile 1216 (18 miles)
Nice early start to what is expected to be a hot clear day. Typical pretty sunrise to start the day. It appears to be Sierra City far below us This hike was nice in that numerous off trail water sources were pretty close to get to, even when there was no water on the trail.Continue reading “Tuesday July 19, 1922 mile 1198.3 to “piped stream” at mile 1216 (18 miles)”
Monday July 18. Back to my start Sierra City mile 1195 to mile 1198.3
Rose was kind enough to help shuttle my car to Belden Town and after a late lunch in Quincy hit the trail at around 5:30 pm. The plan was to get a good chunk of the 3500 elevation gain done that day. Rose provided some trail angel transport to and from Sierra City and offContinue reading “Monday July 18. Back to my start Sierra City mile 1195 to mile 1198.3”
July 10 ” Mikes secret spot” mile 1534 to Peaks Creek trailhead mile 1540

July 9, 2022. Mile 1524 to mile 1534. Just Mike finds us the perfect camp spot (not on my hi tech maps, old school rules!)
Sunrise on Saturday. Caleb likes to sleep in, but he was a warrior this trip. Every day we were hiking before 8. Gotta love that boy! Love the sunrise This is the sign for rose. Picayune. Dinner spot Right next to camp was our diner spot. No wind, mild bugs, Shasta view, it was perfect.Continue reading “July 9, 2022. Mile 1524 to mile 1534. July 8, 2022. Mile 1509 to mile 1524 on the ridge. Fantastic views!
We start, late for me but this is a relaxed fun trip around 7:30( 2 hours early for Caleb. We could leave now and he would catch us by 2nd breakfast). The castle crags. Highest peak around 8500. We walked around it for 2 days and never got above it. Pretty cool Love it 2ndContinue reading “July 8, 2022. Mile 1509 to mile 1524 on the ridge. Fantastic views!”
July 7, 2022 Mile 1500 Castella Castle Crags eventually to Peaks Creek trailhead (1540) but today only 9 miles due to travel)
After getting over my confusion about how the shuttle system works, we met at parks creek trailhead and drove down to the castle crags trailhead where I just finished with JT on July 4. Dr Steve, Mike, me and my best bud hiking friend (way ahead Jed) were ready to go! Of course when youContinue reading “July 7, 2022 Mile 1500 Castella Castle Crags eventually to Peaks Creek trailhead (1540) but today only 9 miles due to travel)”
Monday July 4 mile 1493 to Castle Crags state park mile 1500.6
Real drizzly day after a wet night. The wet plants and often overgrown trail continually dropped water on my legs and shoes since I was 1st on this section of trail this am. Sadly no views at all due to the mist Mile 1500 Finished a fast day and easily found JT at the trailhead.Continue reading “Monday July 4 mile 1493 to Castle Crags state park mile 1500.6”
