Sunday July 3 Ash campground Mile 1471 to mile 1493 (don’t leave your wing man). Ooops. Sorry!

After 14 tough miles, JT was still feeling ill and decided to camp at the Squaw Creek/Cabin Creek trailhead. I would hike ahead 9 miles to water (2000 foot steady climb) and finish the hike the next day then drive back to the trailhead to get JT Start of the day. Great river. Neat blueContinue reading “Sunday July 3 Ash campground Mile 1471 to mile 1493 (don’t leave your wing man). Ooops. Sorry!”

Saturday July 1 mile 1451 to Ash Camp at mile 1470. 20 miles!

HAPPY CANADA DAY!! Kinda a tough but rewarding day. Tough off trail hunts for needed water, 2 pretty good climbs, and a lot of miles. With a lot of effort, and a little misunderstanding on where to meet, we pulled off a 20 mile day making it possible to finish on Monday. Just gotta loveContinue reading “Saturday July 1 mile 1451 to Ash Camp at mile 1470. 20 miles!”

Friday July 1, mile 1436 to 3.5 miles past Moosehead Creek mile 1451

Some epic sunset shots with Shasta views. Not to windy even though we were exposed. A little hazy today. Still pretty nice trail with lots of good views. Usually able to find water every 8 miles or so, not to bad. Getting close Much needed water source about 1/4 mile off trail. Hard to getContinue reading “Friday July 1, mile 1436 to 3.5 miles past Moosehead Creek mile 1451”

Thursday June 30 Burney Falls to mile 1434 near Peavine Creek.

Early start on Thursday. JT feels better and we are ready to rock. Love the bridges. Hate the non bridge water fords A nice shy deer Shasta keeps getting closer. More bridges and water. Really nice trails these sections. Nice paths and gradual inclines when we do go up. Love this hike JT overcoming oneContinue reading “Thursday June 30 Burney Falls to mile 1434 near Peavine Creek.”

Wen June 29 highway 299 mile 1411 to Burney Falls mile 1419

JT felt under the weather and took a day off to rest and work on getting her pack weight down. I got dropped off at the mile 299 trailhead and slack packed pretty quickly into the falls. I would then gather both supply boxes, and hitch back to the church The walk went easy andContinue reading “Wen June 29 highway 299 mile 1411 to Burney Falls mile 1419”

Tuesday, June 28 cache 22 (mile 1393) to Burney (off trail at mile 1410)

Based on what the hikers at the church were saying, we left ourselves the option of hiking 17 miles and then heading into Burney and the church for 2 nights rather than 1. We were able to start walking at 5:15 am and got to see another fabulous sunrise around 6. Hard to read onContinue reading “Tuesday, June 28 cache 22 (mile 1393) to Burney (off trail at mile 1410)”

Monday, June 27. Trail Angel Cafe (mile 1380.6) to 1395.5 water cache 22.

This section was super hot, and along the Hat Creek Rim has over 30 miles with no natural water. Very nice people keep a 500 gallon tank full of lifesaving aqua and is much appreciated. We started at about 5:05 and had to carry about 5 liters of water (Jolie carried 8 with her overContinue reading “Monday, June 27. Trail Angel Cafe (mile 1380.6) to 1395.5 water cache 22.”

Sunday June 26, 2022. Old Station (1377.4) to Castle Crags (mile 1501.2)

Met J T in woodland and drove to Burney Falls to drop off our resupply. Then drove past Dunsmuir to Castle Crags and dropped off the magic Prius. Then Shasta Taxi took us to Old Station where we we would start hiking the next day. JT and myself at Burney Falls on Sunday. Did theContinue reading “Sunday June 26, 2022. May 7, 2022. Mile 436 (North Fork) to Mile 455 (Aqua Dulce) and the finish of section D.

Probably the best sunrise of the trip as me and Cherly started off at almost 5:30 am to help beat the heat on our planned 18 mile day. Me and Cherly made it to the KOA by 9:30 for a nice lunch and break. Even though Craig left camp at least 1/2 hour behind us,Continue reading “May 7, 2022. May 6, 2022. Mile 418 (Mill Creek) to Mile 436 (North Creek Station. 17 miles of “fun”

We started at 6:00 am in hopes of reducing the time needed to hike in the warmer sun. Another day with pretty nice trail conditions. Not many photos today as we had 17 miles to go, and I was tired. After we reached the top of the 2nd hill in good time (11 miles bayContinue reading “May 6, 2022. Mile 418 (Mill Creek) to Mile 436 (North Creek Station. 17 miles of “fun””
