July 7, 2022 Mile 1500 Castella Castle Crags eventually to Peaks Creek trailhead (1540) but today only 9 miles due to travel)

After getting over my confusion about how the shuttle system works, we met at parks creek trailhead and drove down to the castle crags trailhead where I just finished with JT on July 4. Dr Steve, Mike, me and my best bud hiking friend (way ahead Jed) were ready to go!

Of course when you are filled with water, it’s always there. Our goal day 1 is to get 6 or 7 miles in due to our late start.

Sorry for all the Shasta views, but it dominates the vista and is quite impressive. Feel free to fast forward about 140 miles if

Night 1 camp. Mike found us an epic spot not noted on my FarOut guide (he can read maps, a skill I need to learn better). We actually got 9 miles in, with some gentle uphill.

Tomorrow will be interesting. This is not a high miles trip, but to get around the Crags is about a 4500 foot elevation gain(thanks dr steve for accurate info). It’s a gentle up, but 4500 up, gentle or not, wears on you
